Also available RH 2004 Season Expansion Pack, RH 2004 Season Track Pack ******************************************************************************** ***********************************PLEASE NOTE********************************** This is the basic version of the season 2004 package. This means, that it only contents all cars in their chassis version of the US Grand Prix and liveries of various stages from US to Hungary. If you want to play with all changes (liveries and shapes) which happened until the US GP, you will need the RH04 v.1.0 expansion pack which you can download on the same website you got this file from. Because it is not possible to create dynamic driver switches during a running season, we had to make some compromises. So each team still has the drivers who made the most races for it; this means Ralf Schumacher is driving each race for Williams, as well as DaMatta for Toyota and Pantano for Jordan. ******************************************************************************** Developer notes: One of the main priorities while creating this package was, to keep playabilty as good as possible on most of computer systems, low spec and high end (especially regarding 3rd party track graphics updates). So there were some compromises neccessary regarding polycount . Of course it would have been possible to create smoother models with more polygons and sharper, more detailed textures with bigger filesizes, but we decided to do it the way we did to ensure that this package will run within quite similar specifications as the original game. We also didn't use the bmp->jpg trick to achieve high res textures with small file sizes, because there was an unacceptable loss in quality, especially on clean colors. ******************************************************************************** System requirements: Same as F1 Challenge 99-02 plus additional 75 MB free disk space on the drive where the game is installed. What it does content: - all cars (liveries and shapes) of the Formula 1season 2004 at least up to the USA GP - all driver helmets (liveries and shapes) of season 2004 (except Sparco model) - the pitcrews of season 2004 - the driversuits of season 2004 - menu backgrounds for season 2004 - pit garages - diver names, stats and sound files of season 2004 - season 2004 pit order - season 2004 track order - new car and general physics: NOTE: You probably will need your setups revised and changed! - new AI lines and AI behaviour - adjusted driver performance data reflecting an average of season 2004 - new 2D and 3D-rims with corrected diameter for each team (plus brake disk, brake callipers for each team) - tire shape update (based on the 2003 tire pack) - 3 lap qualifying rule for saturday only (please read 2004 rules section below) - season 2004 point system - downshift backfire What it does NOT content: - 100% correct rules of season 2004 (e.g. no One-Engine-Per-Weekend-rule, no pre qualifying) - up2date steering wheels [sorry - might be added in a 1.x] - driver switches **********************************IMPORTANT:************************************ THIS PACKAGE WILL ONLY WORK WITH A CLEAN INSTALLATION OF F1 Challenge 99-02 (with or without) RH03 installed. ******************************************************************************** IF YOU HAVE ALREADY TRIED TO PUT CARS OR TRACKS OF ANY 2004-SEASON-PACK INTO YOUR F1 Challenge 99-02 GAME, THIS PACKAGE MIGHT NOT WORK !!!!!! ******************************************************************************** This package will NOT work with F1 2001 and F1 2002 ******************************************************************************** Installation --------------------- In contrast to our previous F1-200X installations - this Season 2004 addon can be installed in a single step. Start the Installation by double click on '2004RH_4_F1C99-02.exe'. After you have read the license agreement you have to select the destination directory. Please choose your 'F1 Challenge 99-02' directory. After all files have been copied to your harddrive (no orginal files will be overwritten) a batch file will be automatically executed. This batch will copy some original season 2002 track files to the new Season04RH directories. Please wait until this copy procedure is completed. Running --------------------- After all files have been copied by the Installer you simply can start your F1 Challenge '99-'02 game. When going to the season & car selection a new Season 2004 Icon will be available. By selecting this icon you can choose any Season 2004 car. VERY IMPORTANT: SET THE NUMBERS OF AI PLAYERS to 19 BEFORE you start a Season 2004 RACE! You can do that via the game options in the rules section. Or you simply set the AI number in the new menues bottom line in the track selection screen! DON'T FORGET: For the Season 99-02 21 AI Players are required. ******************************************************************************** Season 2004 Rules ******************************************************************************** Unfortunately it is not possible to fully simulate the new rules which have been introduced for the 2004 season. All we can do is to pretend. To achieve this at least you have to edit your >yournameY.plr file a little. You will find this file in your >game directoryyourname< directory. 1.Open the file and scroll down to the GAME OPTIONS section 2.Search for this string: CURNT Qualify Laps="12" PRACT Qualify Laps="12" QUICK Qualify Laps="12" GPRIX Qualify Laps="12" CHAMP Qualify Laps="12" MULTI Qualify Laps="12" RPLAY Qualify Laps="12" 3. Change this into: (If you played season 2004 before you should already have that) CURNT Qualify Laps="3" PRACT Qualify Laps="3" QUICK Qualify Laps="3" GPRIX Qualify Laps="3" CHAMP Qualify Laps="3" MULTI Qualify Laps="12" // Can also be set to 3, but must be the same for all players RPLAY Qualify Laps="3" 4. Scroll up to the DRIVING AIDS section 5. Search for this string: NO AI control = 6. Edit this to NO AI control = 0 You will notice that the AI cars will do 12 laps anyway, but only the first achieved time will be used for the starting grid and all AI cars will be stated as "3 laps" in the time screen. There is no way to limit any friday session to 3 laps only, this only works with regular saturday qualifying session. There will be no start order for the saturday qualifying though according to friday times. ******************************************************************************** ONE-ENGINE-PER-WEEKEND RULE ******************************************************************************** Unfortunately this is not possible to simulate in the game. You have still as many engines available as needed. BUT to reflect some of the difficulties of this rule, the engines are now much more sensible and don't forgive full rev usage over long distances anymore. So I am afraid you need to adjust your driving to that and be more careful with your engine to prevent it from blowing up especially in races! ******************************************************************************** ALTERED STARTING GRID DISTANCES ******************************************************************************** All tracks of RH04 are using altered starting grid positions. Comparisons between TV footage, and lots of photos showed that the distances between the cars in the F1 C starting grids are far too close. This has been changed, the distances have been enlarged so that a more realistic starting process is now possible. However, this means also that it is not as easy as before to overtake opponents at the start until the first corner anymore. So a good qualifying is more required than before. ******************************************************************************** NEW PHYSICS ******************************************************************************** This package provides new car handling, kerb handling and general driving physics accordingly to season 2004 cars and rules. Physics: - The aerodynamic of the cars, the power of the engines and the performance of the tires are adapted to the 2004 season. - A wrong car setup will have an more drastical negative impact on the heating and the wear of the tires, the longer the stint lasts. - The physics develop their whole potential under "changing weather conditions" and with "Super High Physics" activated. To activate "Super High Physics" open your PLR file and search for "Half Rate" - set it to "0". AI: - The AI performance is adapted to the 2004 season. - AIW files are overworked for every track. - Recommended settings are: 100% strength, 100% aggression, 100% damage. - The AI is evenly competitive over the whole season, unless you are driving in cockpit-view and TC "low" is your only help. Tipps for the setup: - Use the maximum engine speed only for qualifying! Reduce the engine speed of around 200 rpm for the race. - The 2.1 cm brake discs should be used only for qualifying as well. 2.8 cm are required for the race! Fixes: - There is no more stuttering when the weather changes. ******************************************************************************** NEW MENUES ******************************************************************************** Advanced Life Feed Menu ----------------------------- You can now view whats going on on the tracks in full screen without hitting the start button. Just click on the (+) on the top edge of the track cam window. Now the view changes to full screen althoug you are still sitting in your garage. On the top bar you can now see your name on the left and the fastest driver and lap time on the right. Top right ----------------------------- you can move mouse/pointer then scroll up/down (mouse wheel) and find the driver you want to see. IF you want to see his fastest lap right click on his name and a list of all his laps will come up (yellow being his fastest). Use mouse wheel to scroll through his laps. IF you want to see another driver, right click again (driver name) and will go back to all driver's list and repeat above IF you want to look at other driver's complated lap times. hehehe.......... same goes for normal sized window/s like advance status and monitor pages. To return to the windowed garage menu just click on the (-) on the top bar. Advanced garage setup Menu ----------------------------- Like alraedy known from Godzila's Advanced Menues there are new car setup features available which are self explaining. Advanced Multiplayer features ----------------------------- Added/changed a few things around which improved info and options/navagation within a MP game. There's no more "oops, back to the lobby" and you can now navigate from the MP option's page just before track loading all the way back to live feed page if needed. MP Host can also adjust "session options" with having to go back to lobby if you decide to change tracks or re-start a race... That's means no need to restart/rehost a MP game if you change your mind once game loads and decide to have "2 Practice" sessions instead of "1" it can now all be done within the game, without going back to the lobby and it also keeps everyone connected to the session, so no need to re-join new session. Same type of navigation/option's is available from the lobby. The full screen live feed is included in all racing modes. Main reason behind that was when friends retire from a race that's still going they can't do anything but watch the small live feed screen. Now you can view live feed in full screen which also includes player's lap times and position so if they wanted to switch views to the fastest player they could. Default: 2 Window Chat Team Coloured BK's (Team Coloured Menu Background's) Options & Car setup screens only: 2 Window Chat Dark Coloured BK's (Dark Coloured Menu Background's) Same as Default (but with 3 Window Chat): 3 Window Chat Team Coloured BK's (Team Coloured Menu Background's) Same as 'Options & Car setup screens only' (but with 3 Window Chat): 3 Window Chat Dark Coloured BK's (Dark Coloured Menu Background's) To enable any of the above, Rename from: "x Window Chat xxxx Coloured BK's - F12K2.osc" to "F12K2.osc" - Support For Track Stats & Info Screens as Seen in F1 2002. - Support For Individual Team Setup Screens as Seen in F1 2002. - Sliders Included in Most Advanced Menu Pages. - 3rd Spring Settings Integrated Within Existing Menu Pages. - Brakes Page: Including Brake Disc Size, Pad Wear & Temps. - Optional Multiplayer Single Screen: Monitor, Status & Chat. - Additional Display & In Game Options Menu. - Additional Force Feedback Options Menu. - Post Race Monitor: Includes Telemetry, Pad Wear & Engine/Ambient Temp's. Team Setup Screens ----------------------------- There's support for individual team garage setup screens as seen in F12002. Sliders ----------------------------- The sliders found in most "Advanced Menu" screens update in realtime only when using the keyboard's cursor keys. Click the pointer on the slider and use the left/right cursor keys to move the pointer. Chat Screen ----------------------------- Optional: Monitor, Status & Chat all on a single screen. The menu's default chat screen has Status & Chat on a single screen. I opted to have the 2 window Status & Chat as the default screen due the key re-assigning issue. To enable the single Monitor, Status & Chat screen rename "3 Window Chat Team Coloured BK's" in the options folder to "F12K2.osc". If you want to return to the default, Rename "2 Window Chat Team Coloured BK's" to "F12K2.osc". Replays ----------------------------- The control buttons are now invisible during replays. They'll re-appear when you move the mousepointer over them. Additional Display/Options Menu ----------------------------- - 12 Extra Display Options (Can be found in the Options menu before loading a circuit.) - 12 Extra In Game Options (Can be found in the Options menu after loading a circuit.) Additional Force Feedback Menu ----------------------------- - 5 Extra Force Feedback Options (Can be found in the existing Force Feedback menu.) -8 Extra Force Feedback Options (Can be found in the new Additional Force Feedback menu.) Post Race Monitor ----------------------------- Quick Race & Multiplayer results screen has Telemetry button, Remaining Brake Pad Wear for all four wheels, Engine temperature & Ambient air temperature. Known Issues: ----------------------------- - When saving a setup, "Engine Brake Map" settings do not save. - Once you change the amount of "VISIBLE VEHICLES" you will not be able to set it back to anything higher than 23. The only way to do so is open the .plr file with a text editor and change this line >> Max VisibleVehicles="23" << to whatever you like. (Default=104) - NOTE: The 3 Window Chat (Option), Some keys become sticky when typing a message. EG: If you were to type the word, "quick" it would display "qqquick". This is because the game "thinks" that you are in your car on the track engaging the clutch, And thus makes the key respond as a "momentary switch", Which means "q" is pressed continuously until the key is released. [1] = mirrors ----------------------------------------- [Q] = clutch [O] = traction control override [/] = RPM limiter [V] = look left [B] = look back [N] = look right It's recommended that you re-assign the above keys to keys used less frequently in chat mode. Experimenting will lead to a configuration that works best for you. A good start would be: [~] = clutch [-] = traction control override [=] = RPM limiter [DELETE] = look left [,] = look back [END] = look right Also remember: Any function can be completely removed from the game by hitting the [ESC] key after selecting a function for assignment in the controller setup menu. Also when chatting, Pressing the [1] key will turn off your in car mirrors. If you enter the car and have no mirrors, simply press [1] to turn mirror's back on. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you back-up your .plr file prior to making any controller changes. That way you can always restore your game back to the current settings. The .plr can be found in the save folder of your F1 Challenge 99-02 install. ******************************************************************************** ADVANCED USER SECTION [HighPerfPC GEN File] ******************************************************************************** In our RH04 season update we have provided you with the option of using our specially adjusted GEN file for improved visuals in the game. This section is only for those who understand what they are doing and realise the performance hit this will make. By default our update will use the file named 'Generic_F1_2004RH.gen' for generating the Level of Detail (LOD) shapes. This default file is identical to the standard F1 Challenge 99-02 file in terms of LOD bias settings so that the performance of the RH03 update should be almost identical to that of the standard game. If you are satisfied with the performance and visual quality at these standard settings you can freely leave it and not bother with this extra tweak. For those who would prefer to have the car LOD shapes switch further from the viewer and thereby improving the overall look of the cars please read on. In our additional GEN file named 'Generic_F1_2004RH_HighPerfPC.gen' we have adjusted the distances at which the LOD bias shapes are drawn. We have done this only for the MAX opponent level of detail setting, so in order for this additional GEN file to work as described you MUST have the Opponent level of detail set to FULL in the game options menu. The player level of detail should also be set to FULL. The benefit of this additional GEN file is that the opponent cars will switch from A (max detail) to B (high detail) and to C (medium detail) LOD shapes further from the players view, and therefore decrease or completely eliminate the annoying 'jumping' effect as the shapes switch. The price you will pay for this improved visual quality will be lower frame rates during races, and especially at the starts. Your game will in effect be drawing more detailed 3D objects for longer periods. If no opponent cars are visible on screen there should be no difference in performance between the extra GEN file and the game default. This will mean that racing with one or two cars directly ahead of the player should have a very minimal frame rate hit, but during race starts where a lot of cars are very close together the performance hit will be more noticeable. You have been warned! The exact frame rate hit that you can expect is impossible to judge as more powerful PCs will handle it more easily than slower ones. On a relatively powerful PC (AMD 3000+ with ATi Radeon 9700 at 1280x960 4xFSAA 8xAniso) with all details in the game on the highest settings except shadows which are on Medium (the shadows are a huge frame rate killer on the highest setting) the performance drop is from 47fps to 40fps at the back of a full grid. It is a bigger drop from 70fps to 42fps if no FSAA or Anisotropic filtering is used as then the graphics card is not the bottleneck. Your results will of course vary greatly, and that is why we suggest you try it for yourselves. To use this extra GEN file all you have to do is rename it to Generic_F1_2004RH.gen. Please make a back up of the original Generic_F1_2004RH.gen file before you do this so that you can go back to it if you find the performance hit too great. We also STRONGLY suggest that you don't change the LODMultiplier values in the Default.cfg file (located in your Save folder). The default.cfg file can also be used to change the LOD distances for specific cameras, simply by changing the LODMultiplier value. This updated HighPerfPC GEN file was made with the LODMultiplier set to 1 and we suggest you leave the default value of 1 for all cameras. Increasing this number will only make the LOD switching take place even further from the player and cause an even greater performance hit without bringing any noticeable visual improvement. ******************************************************************************** Problems & Fixes: ******************************************************************************** Known problems: --------------------- - IF you have no tracks which are selectable (or the game hangs up after you have selected a track) then the BATCH file which should be automatically executed after the installation was not successful. This might happen, if you DID NOT install the season 2004 addon into your main 'F1 Challenge 99-02' directory. - Because some steering wheels /dashboards have been updated, Sauber, Minardi, McLaren and BAR will have WHITE Indicator LED's [Speed, Gear etc...]. We also do not like this very much - but we haven't found a way to get different FONTREAD.BMP files loaded for the different teams. So if you drive frequently one of the mentioned teams above and you would like to have red colored indicator LED's, then you can copy the file 'FONTREAD.BMP' [located in the 2004 BAR, McLaren, Minardi and Sauber folders] into the 'SeasonDataVehicles' directory (go into your 'F1 Challenge 99-02' directory first!). When you want to drive another team, then the indicator LED's will not be colored right as long as you will have not delete the FONTREAD.BMP from the 'SeasonDataVehicles' directory again. - Pit garages: The garages work well on all tracks with the garages right handed. If the garages are lefthanded (E.g. Magny Cours) the details positions are a bit dearranged. This is because of the mapping of the garages. If you don't like this at all, you can restore the default garages by copying the file "logomap.MAS" from your game CD and overwrite the "Logomap.MAS" of your game installation on your HD. This file is located in the Season DataCircuitsCommon folder. - If the AI-Drivers get disqualified during Qualifying: make sure that the 'No AI Control' option in your plr file is set to '0' [No AI Control="0"] To check this do the following: 1) Go to your 'F1 Challenge 99-02' Game directory 2) Open the folder called 'Save' 3) Search for a folder that have the name of your Driver and open this folder [normally there is only one folder with your player name] 4) in the 'YourPlayerName' directory you will find a file called 'YourPlayerName'.PLR 5) open this file with your windows Notepad or another text editor 6) search for: 'No AI Control' 7) check that it look like this No AI Control="0" - IF You can not enable the Mirrors (they are BLACK) & Of course, the Mirrors = 'On' in the graphic options AND you have a Nvidea video card - make sure to update your drivers to: Nvidia Det. drivers. 44.85 - that should solve your problem. [Thanks to F1Racer] Known bugs: --------------------- None, it has been tested over and over again. All we can do is to pretend. To achieve this at least you have to edit your >yournameY.plr file a little. You will find this file in your >game directoryyourname< directory. 1.Open the file and scroll down to the GAME OPTIONS section 2.Search for this string: CURNT Qualify Laps="12" PRACT Qualify Laps="12" QUICK Qualify Laps="12" GPRIX Qualify Laps="12" CHAMP Qualify Laps="12" MULTI Qualify Laps="12" RPLAY Qualify Laps="12" 3. Change this into: (If you played season 2004 before you should already have that) CURNT Qualify Laps="3" PRACT Qualify Laps="3" QUICK Qualify Laps="3" GPRIX Qualify Laps="3" CHAMP Qualify Laps="3" MULTI Qualify Laps="12" // Can also be set to 3, but must be the same for all players RPLAY Qualify Laps="3" 4. Scroll up to the DRIVING AIDS section 5. Search for this string: NO AI control = 6. Edit this to NO AI control = 0 You will notice that the AI cars will do 12 laps anyway, but only the first achieved time will be used for the starting grid and all AI cars will be stated as "3 laps" in the time screen. There is no way to limit any friday session to 3 laps only, this only works with regular saturday qualifying session. There will be no start order for the saturday qualifying though according to friday times. ******************************************************************************** ONE-ENGINE-PER-WEEKEND RULE ******************************************************************************** Unfortunately this is not possible to simulate in the game. You have still as many engines available as needed. BUT to reflect some of the difficulties of this rule, the engines are now much more sensible and don't forgive full rev usage over long distances anymore. So I am afraid you need to adjust your driving to that and be more careful with your engine to prevent it from blowing up especially in races! ******************************************************************************** ALTERED STARTING GRID DISTANCES ******************************************************************************** All tracks of RH04 are using altered starting grid positions. Comparisons between TV footage, and lots of photos showed that the distances between the cars in the F1 C starting grids are far too close. This has been changed, the distances have been enlarged so that a more realistic starting process is now possible. However, this means also that it is not as easy as before to overtake opponents at the start until the first corner anymore. So a good qualifying is more required than before. ******************************************************************************** NEW PHYSICS ******************************************************************************** This package provides new car handling, kerb handling and general driving physics accordingly to season 2004 cars and rules. Physics: - The aerodynamic of the cars, the power of the engines and the performance of the tires are adapted to the 2004 season. - A wrong car setup will have an more drastical negative impact on the heating and the wear of the tires, the longer the stint lasts. - The physics develop their whole potential under "changing weather conditions" and with "Super High Physics" activated. To activate "Super High Physics" open your PLR file and search for "Half Rate" - set it to "0". AI: - The AI performance is adapted to the 2004 season. - AIW files are overworked for every track. - Recommended settings are: 100% strength, 100% aggression, 100% damage. - The AI is evenly competitive over the whole season, unless you are driving in cockpit-view and TC "low" is your only help. Tipps for the setup: - Use the maximum engine speed only for qualifying! Reduce the engine speed of around 200 rpm for the race. - The 2.1 cm brake discs should be used only for qualifying as well. 2.8 cm are required for the race! Fixes: - There is no more stuttering when the weather changes. ******************************************************************************** NEW MENUES ******************************************************************************** Advanced Life Feed Menu ----------------------------- You can now view whats going on on the tracks in full screen without hitting the start button. Just click on the (+) on the top edge of the track cam window. Now the view changes to full screen althoug you are still sitting in your garage. On the top bar you can now see your name on the left and the fastest driver and lap time on the right. Top right ----------------------------- you can move mouse/pointer then scroll up/down (mouse wheel) and find the driver you want to see. IF you want to see his fastest lap right click on his name and a list of all his laps will come up (yellow being his fastest). Use mouse wheel to scroll through his laps. IF you want to see another driver, right click again (driver name) and will go back to all driver's list and repeat above IF you want to look at other driver's complated lap times. hehehe.......... same goes for normal sized window/s like advance status and monitor pages. To return to the windowed garage menu just click on the (-) on the top bar. Advanced garage setup Menu ----------------------------- Like alraedy known from Godzila's Advanced Menues there are new car setup features available which are self explaining. Advanced Multiplayer features ----------------------------- Added/changed a few things around which improved info and options/navagation within a MP game. There's no more "oops, back to the lobby" and you can now navigate from the MP option's page just before track loading all the way back to live feed page if needed. MP Host can also adjust "session options" with having to go back to lobby if you decide to change tracks or re-start a race... That's means no need to restart/rehost a MP game if you change your mind once game loads and decide to have "2 Practice" sessions instead of "1" it can now all be done within the game, without going back to the lobby and it also keeps everyone connected to the session, so no need to re-join new session. Same type of navigation/option's is available from the lobby. The full screen live feed is included in all racing modes. Main reason behind that was when friends retire from a race that's still going they can't do anything but watch the small live feed screen. Now you can view live feed in full screen which also includes player's lap times and position so if they wanted to switch views to the fastest player they could.
